Competitive sports can bring incredible joy, discipline, and confidence to a young athlete's life and they can also bring intense pressure. Many young athletes carry a quiet weight: the fear of letting their coach or parents down, the voice that says a good performance was never quite good enough, the anxiety that shows up before a big competition, or the exhaustion of chasing perfection every single day.
As a therapist — and as a parent of a competitive junior player myself — I understand this world from the inside. I know what it's like to sit courtside, to watch a child's confidence rise and fall with a single match, and to wonder how to support them without adding to the pressure they already feel.
I work with young athletes across all sports who are navigating performance anxiety, perfectionism, fear of failure, burnout, and the emotional weight of competition. I also work with parents who want to better understand how to support their athlete — without unintentionally becoming another source of pressure.
